Now’s the time to plan your Christmas fireworks!

Summer may only just be over, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start planning your Christmas celebrations.

Whether you’re planning a private party, a corporate function or an event for members of the public, now is most definitely the time to organise the fireworks for your big occasion. If you leave it any later, your costs are likely to be a lot higher and availability of venues and professional display organisers may become a bit tight.

How to organise a Christmas fireworks display

Fireworks at Christmas can be truly magical, and the perfect way to celebrate another fantastic festive season. Children in particular absolutely love fireworks at this time of year, as they add to the excitement of an already exciting occasion. However, adults also love a good fireworks display, especially at the end of a Christmas party to remember!

If you’re in charge of organising your work’s Christmas do or you’re planning any other festive occasion, here’s what you need to consider when it comes to your fireworks:

  • Venue. The ideal venue for a fireworks display is mainly level, with lots of space for spectators to stand a safe distance from the main ‘firing zone’. You should make sure there aren’t any tall obstructions, such as trees, buildings or even cranes, which could get in the way when your spectators are gazing up at the display in the sky. Lastly, consider how many people are likely to come to your display, and make sure you have more than enough space for everyone.

  • Timing. If you’re having your display at a Christmas party, you’ll need to pick exactly the right time of the evening to hold it. Too late and your guests might be slightly too ‘merry’ to appreciate it (many may also have gone home!), too early and it won’t quite feel special enough. Somewhere around 9pm is usually a good time to aim at – and remember that you might fall foul of local authority rules if your display goes on past 11pm. You might also want to think about the date you hold your party or display on, because the impact of your fireworks could get a little lost if there are lots of other Christmas parties happening on the same night.

  • Festive touches. To make your display just that bit more ‘Christmassy’, there are a couple of fun things you can do. Speak to your display organiser and ask whether you can include lots of reds and greens in the fireworks you choose, although silver, gold and green are also great colours for Christmas. You may also want to consider setting your display to music. Choose your favourite Christmas song and ask our organisers if they can choreograph the display to match the music. This may be a slightly more expensive option, but it’s definitely worth it! Having a display perfectly timed to music can be hugely exciting to watch (and listen to!), so it’s the perfect way to make your Christmas party extra-special.
